Allen Park -- The Detroit Lions cut 21 players Saturday as the team established its initial 53-man roster.

Among the cuts were four of former general manager Martin Mayhew's draft picks -- defensive tackles Caraun Reid and Gabe Wright, wide receiver TJ Jones and cornerback Alex Carter.

Wright and Carter were added just last year, costing the Lions two third-round selections. The team took Carter in the third round, No. 80 overall, and traded its 2016 third-round choice (No. 77) to grab Gabe Wright in the fourth round.

In addition to those four plays, the Lions waived wide receivers Jace Billingsley, Quinshad Davis and Jay Lee, linebackers Jayson DiManche, Zaviar Gooden and Khaseem Green, tight end Adam Fuehne, center Gabe Ikard, safety Isaiah Johnson, offensive tackles Luke Marquardt and Michael Ola, quarterback Jake Rudock guard Brandon Thomas, defensive back Charles Washington and running back George Winn.

The team also cut ties with vested veterans Lemuel Jeanpierre and Darrin Walls

Those moves leave the Lions with just four wide receivers and six defensive ends. Edge rushers Brandon Copleand, Anthony Zettel and Kerry Hyder surprisingly all made the team.

Detroit could clear additional room on Sunday by placing linebacker Jon Bostic on injured reserve. That would free up a roster spot to add another wide receiver back to the roster.

Lions waive rookie Rudock, will keep just 2 QBs
