Allen Park -- The Detroit Lions added a new linebacker to the roster Sunday, claiming Thurston Armbrister off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars. To clear the roster space, the team placed Josh Bynes on injured reserve.

Undrafted out of Miami last season, the 6-foot-3, 246-pound Armbrister appeared in all 16 games for the Jaguars in 2015, starting three contests and recording 23 tackles.

Bynes suffered a knee injury either during the second preseason game or shortly after. He hasn't been practicing in recent weeks and did not appear in the final two exhibition contests.

Around the league, 33 players were claimed off waivers the day following teams cutting down to their 53-man rosters. Only one of the 19 players the Lions sent through waivers, defensive tackle Caraun Reid, was claimed. He is headed to San Diego to join the Chargers.
