Indianapolis — Kerry Hyder made the Detroit Lions’ roster following an impressive three-sack outing in the exhibition finale against the Buffalo Bills a little more than a week ago. He kept his pass-rushing momentum going into the regular season with two more sacks against the Colts.

“The guy is interesting because the guy just finds a way,” coach Jim Caldwell said. “He has an unbelievable motor and he’s slippery. He doesn’t necessarily overpower you, but he can. He doesn’t necessarily run around you, but he can. He just doesn’t stop.

“We’ve seen that from him when he was on the practice squad (last year),” Caldwell continued. “He was always in the backfield, one way or another. He proved he can do it out here with the big guys, too. We’re proud of the way he played.”

Hyder’s sacks were the only two the Lions registered against Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck. Both came in the first half on first-down plays, but essentially killed a pair of Colts drives.

Hyder also disrupted another Luck throw by driving an offensive lineman in Luck, interrupting the quarterback’s throwing motion.
