Matthew Stafford-Matt Ryan hoops rematch on hold

Houston – Last offseason, Matthew Stafford and Matt Ryan had a little bit more time of their hands.

With both the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions missing the playoffs, the two friends who call Atlanta home in the offseason teamed up with their wives to win a co-ed basketball championship at a local church.

Unfortunately, defending that title probably isn’t the cards.

“I’m not sure when that season starts up. I know Matthew and Kelly are expecting twins and I’m excited for them, but I think they might be on the shelf for offseason basketball,” Ryan said.

The Staffords are expecting a pair of baby girls this spring. They will be the young couple’s first children.

Ryan also has his hands full, at least into February. The league’s presumptive MVP has his team preparing for Super Bowl LI this Sunday against the New England Patriots.

And though the highlights never made it to SportsCenter, Ryan insisted Stafford has some serious skills on the basketball court.

“Matthew has some game,” Ryan said. “He’s a good player. He can fill it up, he can shoot the ball pretty well.”
