Former Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has a new job.

General manager John Lynch announced on Thursday that Mayhew has accepted a job as a senior personnel executive with the San Francisco 49ers.

Mayhew, who was fired by the Lions after 14 years with the organization in November 2015, latched on with the Giants last season as a director of football operations/special projects.

It’s an interesting career move for Mayhew, who got his start working in an NFL front office under Matt Millen. Lynch, like Millen, is making the jump from the broadcast booth into a general manager role this year.

Mayhew and Lynch were teammates in Tampa Bay from 1993-96.
