Lions take Davis, Njoku in ESPN experts’ final mocks

The Detroit News

The final mock drafts by ESPN experts Mel Kiper and Todd McShay have been posted and both project that Michigan defensive end Taco Charlton and safety Jabrill Peppers will not be selected in the first round.

Kiper predicts the Detroit Lions will take Florida linebacker Jarrad Davis with the No. 21 pick. McShay says the Lions will draft Miami tight end David Njoku at No. 21.

Kiper on Davis: “The Lions have needs at linebacker, cornerback and end on defense, and Davis would be a great fit. He is a steady, reliable and versatile defender with a nose for the football. And I love his intangibles.”

McShay on Njoku: “As TE Eric Ebron enters what could be the final year of his contract, don’t be surprised if the Lions take advantage of a very deep tight end class. Njoku has the athleticism to cause all sorts of problems for defenses in the red zone.”

Along with Charlton and Peppers, Michigan State defensive end Malik McDowell also is not in the first round in either Kiper’s or McShay’s final mock draft.

Kiper has Western Michigan receiver Corey Davis going No. 16 to the Baltimore Ravens and McShay has Davis being selected No. 18 by the Tennessee Titans.
