Lions’ Stafford at No. 96 in CBS Sports’ top 100

You’ll have to look long and hard, but there is a Lion among Pete Prisco’s top 100 NFL players for 2017.

The football analyst for CBS Sports has quarterback Matthew Stafford ranked No. 96 on his list, unveiled Thursday.

That’s a much different neighborhood compared to the rankings offered earlier this week by the NFL Network, which listed Stafford at No. 31 based on input from NFL players.

Stafford, in his eighth season in Detroit, passed for 4,327 yards, with 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He completed 65.3 percent of his passes, and led the Lions to the playoffs.

“He didn’t have Calvin Johnson for the first time in his career and he still played at a high level,” Prisco wrote. “He’s averaged 28 touchdown passes a season the past six years and has thrown for over 4,200 in each of those seasons.”

Fellow NFC North quarterback Aaron Rodgers tops Prisco’s rankings, edging Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, a former Michigan signal caller.

Other notables include Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown (Central Michigan) at No. 8; Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell (Michigan State) at No. 20; Dolphins defensive tackle, and former Lions star, Ndamukong Suh at No. 24; Titans offensive tackle Jack Conklin (Michigan State) at No. 82; Seahawks defensive end and former Lions standout Cliff Avril at No. 92; and Titans offensive tackle Taylor Lewan (Michigan) at No. 99.

Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins, a former MSU star, was among those who just missed the cut by Prisco.
