Allen Park – The Detroit Lions have activated defensive end Jeremiah Valoaga from the physically unable to perform list.

An undrafted rookie out of UNLV, Valoaga is a longshot to make the roster, but provides much-needed camp depth at a position where the Lions are banged up. Ziggy Ansah, Cornelius Washington and Armonty Bryant all remain sidelined with injury.

The 6-foot-6, 255-pound Valoaga recorded 24 tackles, 5.5 sacks and a forced fumble in 10 games for the Rebels last season, before he was dismissed for violating an undisclosed team rule.

Valoaga is competing with fellow undrafted rookie Alex Barrett and Bryant for a potential fifth defensive job. The rookies are also prime candidates for the practice squad.
