Allen Park — The Detroit Lions got two players back on Monday, activating defensive end Armonty Bryant and guard Brandon Thomas from the physically unable to perform list.

Byrant provides much-needed depth at defensive end, where the team remains without Cornelius Washington and Ziggy Ansah. A waiver claim last season, Bryant recorded three sacks in five games before being placed on injured reserve.

While the return to practice is welcomed, Bryant won’t be able to contribute to start the season. He’s facing a four-game suspension — his third ban in the past year — for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

In addition to Bryant and Thomas’ activations, coach Jim Caldwell noted during an interview with NFL Radio that offensive tackle Corey Robinson (foot) is nearing a return.
