Matt Patricia is getting close to filling out his coaching staff in Detroit. The Lions on Friday announced the addition of Derius Swinton as an offensive assistant.

Swinton has eight years of NFL experience as a special teams coach, including a year as the San Francisco 49ers coordinator (2016) and his most recent stint with the Chicago Bears.

The 32-year-old Swinton, who played safety at Hampton University from 2003-06, got his coaching start at Tennessee in 2007-08 working as a graduate assistant alongside Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter.
