Clemson defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence is Todd McShay’s pick for the Detroit Lions at No. 9 in his “way-too-early” NFL mock draft for 2019.

The ESPN analyst’s draft order was determined by using Football Outsiders’ projected records for the 2018 season.

Lawrence (6-4, 340), who is from Wake Forest, N.C., has been an impact player during his first two seasons at Clemson, totaling 118 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks and 28 QB pressures in 27 games (23 starts).

To be eligible for the 2019 NFL Draft, Lawrence would have to declare early, following his junior season at Clemson.

“Lawrence … is a highly-skilled, big-bodied disruptive force on the interior,” McShay says.

McShay has Michigan defensive end Rashan Gary going third to the New York Giants. Gary, too, would have to declare after his third college season.

Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson is not in McShay’s mock draft. In 2019 mock drafts published last week by SB Nation and CBS Sports, Patterson was listed as the No. 22 pick by the Chargers and the No. 24 selection by the Jaguars, respectively.
