CBS Sports: Lions' Stafford No. 68, Slay No. 74 in top 100 for 2018

The Detroit News

Pete Prisco doesn't seem to share the admiration NFL players have for the Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford and cornerback Darius Slay.

Last week, Stafford checked in at No. 31 on the NFL Network's top 100 players for 2018, rankings that are determined by voting from NFL players. Slay, entering his sixth NFL season, cracked the top 100 for the first time, at No. 49.

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford ranks No. 68 in Pete Prisco's top 100 NFL players for 2018. Prisco writes for CBS Sports.

Prisco, a senior writer for CBS Sports covering the NFL, ranks Stafford No. 68 in his top 100 NFL players, which was posted Monday, and Slay at No. 74.

Stafford, Prisco writes, "had another good season in 2017, throwing 28 touchdowns and 10 picks. He also threw for 4,446 yards."

Stafford is Prisco's second-ranked quarterback in the NFC North, trailing the Green Bay Packers' Aaron Rodgers, who tops Prisco's overall rankings. Stafford is eighth among all quarterbacks on Prisco's list, following Rodgers, former Michigan quarterback Tom Brady (New England, No. 2), Drew Brees (New Orleans, No. 20), Matt Ryan (Atlanta, No. 41), Russell Wilson (Seattle, No. 42), Philip Rivers (Los Angeles Chargers, No. 52), and Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh Steelers, No. 63).

Slay, meanwhile, is coming off a season in which he had eight interceptions, "showing the ability to handle the league's best receivers."

Also making Prisco's list are Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown (Central Michigan) at No. 5, Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell (Michigan State) at No. 19, former Lions and current Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh at No. 51, Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham (Detroit Crockett, Michigan) at No. 54, and San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Joe Staley (Central Michigan) at No. 85.
