Red Wings 1, Maple Leafs 0 (OT): Instant analysis
Chris McCosky: It had to be somewhat heartening for the Red Wings' coaching staff to see Tomas Tatar putting six shots on goal through the first two periods, even if none got past goalie Jonathan Bernier. The so-called Kids Line — Tatar, Riley Sheahan and Tomas Jurco — has been way too quiet through the first four games. They produced just one goal in the first four games (Tatar), but more problematic, just 15 shots among them.
Coach Mike Babcock touched on it before the game, saying he wanted that line to stop playing with the puck and get back to play the sound, attack-the-net game they were successful with last season. The six shots by Tatar, and another two by Sheahan, is a step — baby step — in the right direction.
