Instant analysis: Red Wings squander high-energy effort

The Detroit News
Detroit Red Wings' Pavel Datsyuk, (13), center, celebrates his goal with teammates Darren Helm, (43) and Tomas Tatar, right, in the third period.

Red Wings squander energetic first two periods with a lack of "finish" and two defensive mistakes. Underlines need for more offense going forward. Expect lots of tight games.

This was a game the Red Wings probably deserved a better fate.

They dominated this game for long stretches, but somehow, the Philadelphia Flyers escaped with a 4-2 victory.

Give Flyers goalie Ray Emery a lot of credit for saving the Flyers while they were running around all over the ice.

When the Flyers finally did get a few scoring chances, they converted.

It happens in hockey. The better team doesn't always win. This game was a case of that.
