Dylan Larkin (Waterford/Michigan) scored the Grand Rapids Griffins' first two goals while leading them to a 4-2 victory Monday over the Utica Comets in the AHL Western Conference finals.
The best-of-seven series is tied 1-1 and shifts back to Grand Rapids for Games 3 through 5 Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
The Wings' 2014 first-round pick opened the scoring with five minutes left in the first period with Andreas Athanasiou assisting. About three minutes later, Larkin struck again with Teemu Pulkkinen assisting.
The Griffins added power-play goals from Pulkkinen and Tyler Bertuzzi to take a 4-0 lead into the third. Brendan Gaunce and Sven Baertschi, both on the power play, replied with third-period goals for the Comets.
Tom McCollum stopped 32 shots in the Griffins' net.
Larkin, 18, signed with the Wings' minor league affiliate after a stellar freshman season at Michigan where he posted 15 goals and 47 points in 35 games. He also had an assist in 10 games playing for Team USA at the World Ice Hockey Championships in the Czech Republic where the U.S. collected the bronze medal.
