Detroit — The Red Wings are apparently going to have one familiar face behind the bench with new head coach Jeff Blashill.

According to Hockey Night in Canada's Damien Cox and Elliotte Friedman during their NHL headlines segment, assistant coach Tony Granato is expected to return to the Red Wings.

General manager Ken Holland wasn't available for comment.

Granato interviewed for assistant coach positions in Toronto (with former Red Wings coach Mike Babcock) and Buffalo during the last couple weeks but informed the Red Wings he was also interested in returning to Detroit.

After declining the option year on his contract with the Red Wings, Granato and the organization have apparently been able to work out a new deal.

The other assistant's job on Blashill's staff will likely be filled this week, with former Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios a possible choice.
