Detroit -- Forward Landon Ferraro was claimed off waivers Sunday by the Boston Bruins.
Ferraro hadn't played for the Red Wings since injuring his knee Nov. 6 in a game against Toronto.
With the Red Wings healthy up front and with too many players for too few roster spots, Ferraro fell victim to the numbers crunch.
Ferraro, a 2009 second-round draft pick, made the Red Wings out of training camp but found it difficult staying in the lineup.
In 10 games, Ferraro had not registered a point this season, with a minus-3 rating.
Ferraro and the Bruins face the Red Wings Wednesday.
