Wings Brendan Smith gets hit with a punch by Lightning's Victor Hedman as the third period ends and the scrum begins.

Ted Kulfan of The Detroit News assesses the Wings in key areas of their Game 3 victory over the Lightning.

FORWARDS

Henrik Zetterberg finally scored and Andreas Athanasiou scored again while playing limited ice time. The Luke Glendening line completely shut down the Tyler Johnson line, not allowing them a single shot on net. The Red Wings outshot Tampa Bay 30-16. Best overall effort of the series for the Red Wings. Grade: B

DEFENSE

The unit got a big boost from Brendan Smith, who made his presence felt immediately with a big hit and played an emotional but smart game. The Lightning had no room to create offense and goalie Petr Mrazek got to see every shot at him. Grade: B-plus

GOALTENDING

Mrazek pitched one of the easiest shutouts he'll ever have, 16 shots but not a lot of them were all that difficult. Grade: A
