Wings release schedule for farewell season at The Joe

The Red Wings host the Canadiens on Saturday, Nov. 26, and Saturday, April 8, in the final season at Joe Louis Arena.

Detroit – The Red Wings will close out their final regular season season at Joe Louis Arena with consecutive games April 8-9.

Montreal will visit the Red Wings on April 8, and the New Jersey Devils will play the final regular season game at Joe Louis Arena the following day.

The Red Wings are moving into Little Caesars Arena for the 2017-18 season after 38 years at JLA.

The NHL Tuesday released its full 2016-17 schedule.

The Red Wings will play 23 weekend games at Joe Louis Arena – six Fridays, nine Saturdays, eight Sundays.

After a season-opening two-game road trip to Tampa Bay (Oct. 13) and Florida (Oct. 15), the Red Wings open the home schedule Oct. 17 against Ottawa.

The Red Wings host all their Original Six opponents at least once, and will play 18 games total against the Original Six (five games against Montreal, four against Boston and Toronto, three New York Rangers, two Chicago).

The Red Wings will enjoy a five-game home stand Dec. 9-17 – but will pay for it with a 10 of 11 road games from Dec. 19- Jan. 12.

Wings’ best options hinge on trading Datsyuk contract

Included in that stretch is the Jan. 1 game at BMO Field in Toronto, the NHL Centennial Classic.

This game will serve as the start of a yearlong centennial celebration featuring a variety of ceremonies, recognitions, observances and special events highlighting 100 years of NHL hockey. During the course of the home portion of the schedule, the Red Wings will highlight historic games, entertainment acts held at JLA during its 38 years, and championship and alumni celebrations.

Sidney Crosby and the Stanley Cup-winning Pittsburgh Penguins visit Joe Louis Arena Jan. 14.

The Red Wings will end the season with nine of their final 11 games against fellow Atlantic Division opponents.

This year’s All-Star break takes place Jan. 27-30, with the top players gathering in Los Angeles for the game.

Single game tickets for the 2016-17 regular season go on sale Monday, August. 29, at 10 a.m.
