Wings prospect Bertuzzi scores 2 as Griffins advance

Tyler Bertuzzi scored two goals, one coming in a three-goal second period for the Grand Rapids Griffins, who defeated the Chicago Wolves, 5-2, on Saturday night to advance to the American Hockey League Western Conference finals.

The Red Wings’ AHL affiliate ousted the Wolves in the best-of-seven series, 4-1, and will face the San Jose Barracuda in the conference finals, starting Saturday in San Jose, California.

On Saturday in Chicago, Bertuzzi gave the Griffins the lead for good at the 3:53 mark of the second period, snapping a 1-1 tie. Tomas Nosek and Kyle Criscuolo also scored in the period, as Grand Rapids took a 4-1 lead into the final period and never looked back.

Bertuzzi added his second goal 30 seconds into the third period, giving him five in the playoffs, continuing his usual strong play in the postseason. His five goals and 10 points lead the team in the playoffs, and is tied for second among all players in the Calder Cup playoffs.

Jared Coreau stopped 22 of 24 shots in goal for Grand Rapids. Evgeny Svechnikov also scored for Grand Rapids. Matt Lorito had two assists. Nosek and Criscuolo also assisted on goals.
