Detroit — The Red Wings acquired defenseman Alex Biega late Sunday night from Vancouver in exchange for forward David Pope.

Biega, 31, played in 41 games with the Canucks last season, with two goals and 14 assists and an even plus-minus rating. Biega was among the final cuts on Vancouver before this season began, before being sent back to the AHL.

The 5-foot-10, 187-pound Biega has played in 179 NHL games, all with Vancouver, with 36 points (four goals, 32 assists), and 351 AHL games.

Pope, 25, played in 35 games last season with Grand Rapids and Toledo, with seven points (five goals, two assists).
