Former Oakland University defender Wilfred Williams was selected in the fourth round (No. 82 overall) by Sporting Kansas City in the Major League Soccer Super Draft Monday.
Williams joins Michigan forward Francis Atuahene (FC Dallas, 1st round, No. 4 overall), Western Michigan defender Brandon Bye (New England Revolution, 1st round, No. 8), Western goalkeeper Drew Shepherd (2nd round, No. 46) and Michigan State midfielder Ken Krolicki (Montreal Impact, 3rd round, No. 53) as Michigan-based players taken in the draft.
The native of Monrovia, Liberia recorded three assists while starting 34 games in two years for the Golden Grizzlies.
Williams is the second Oakland player drafted by an MLS club since Jason Perry, who was selected 43rd overall by the LA Galaxy.
