Detroit City FC's Yazeed Matthews celebrates after scoring in the 66th minute against the Michigan Stars Wednesday at Ultimate Soccer Arenas.

Yazeed Matthews scored in the 66th minute to carry Detroit City FC to a 1-0 victory over the Michigan Stars Wednesday, clinching the NPSL Members Cup title.

DCFC (8-0-1, 25 points) wins the inaugural six-team tournament with a match remaining. Goalkeeper Nate Steinwascher picked up the shutout, his sixth in Members Cup play.

The lone goal bore the hallmarks of a typical DCFC engineered strike.

Midfielder Bakie Goodman bought enough time in the offensive third until he spotted Tendai Jirira streaking down the left side. The Zimbabwe defender proceeded down the flank where he found Matthews lurking at the top of the box.

Matthews rounded the Michigan Stars defenders and deposited the ball past goalkeeper Tatenda Mkuruva. The goal was Matthews' fifth in Members Cup play, which leaves him one behind Chattanooga FC's Joao Costa for the league lead.

Detroit wraps up the 2019 campaign against Milwaukee Saturday at Keyworth Stadium. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
