Detroit News to launch revamped Web, mobile sites

Whether you just dabble in digital or read all of The News’ platforms every day, you’ll notice some big changes starting Thursday.

Our redesigned Web and mobile sites both feature a dynamic, high-impact presentation of The News, taking full advantage of our award-winning photography and growing array of video and multimedia. We’ve streamlined our navigation, updated the local weather report and added prominent quick links to some of our most popular pages. We’ll be showcasing our columnists and our photo galleries to make sure it’s easy to find the best content on our homepage.

Our readers will be able to choose the way they view our content — from a grid of photos or a list of headlines. If you want to scan several section fronts quickly, they’re lined up just a click away.

Perhaps the most dramatic change is the more prominent showcasing of photos and video, aspects of our coverage you’ve come to know and count on.

The wonders of technology will make our mobile site especially responsive — it will recognize the device you’re using and deliver a tailored presentation.

Within the next couple of weeks, you’ll see our new free apps in the Apple and Android stores, which will offer similar improvements.

With the changes, we haven’t lost sight of the fact that you come to us first for Michigan’s most interesting news and information. We’ll continue to deliver the outstanding journalism that you’ve come to trust every day.
