Metro Detroit can expect rain through Thursday and showers are possible for the Memorial Day weekend and holiday, according to the National Weather Service.

It also predicts temperatures will be warmer than they have been with highs in the 70s.

“We have a little low pressure system that’s moving up through the Ohio River Valley today,” said Deb Elliot, a meteorological technician for the weather service at its White Lake Township office. “So we’re going to see an increase in showers this afternoon and those will last through Thursday.”

On Wednesday, there’s a chance of thunderstorms through the evening.

The weather service Wednesday issued a hazardous outlook for parts of southeast Michigan. It said severe weather wasn’t expected, but there could be strong winds and hail.

It also issued a small water craft advisory for some Michigan waterways, including the Saginaw Bay in the Thumb. The advisory will remain in effect until 10 p.m Thursday, the weather service said.

Metro Detroit’s wet weather will continue through Thursday but the region will dry off and see seasonable temperatures Friday and Saturday.

“We get a little bit of a break in that system Friday and probably the first part of Saturday,” Elliot said. “But then there’s another low pressure system that will move in and there will be chances for showers Saturday afternoon.”

She also said the rain could linger Sunday and Monday, which is Memorial Day.

“We’re expecting chances of rain all the way through Monday,” Elliott said. “On the upside, I guess, it’ll be warmer. Of course, if it’s warmer and rainy that means it's humid.”
