Some 5,500 homes and businesses remain without power Tuesday morning after severe thunderstorms Monday that turned out the lights for 12,000 DTE Energy customers.
Scattered thunderstorms carried damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and produced 1-inch hail, according to the National Weather Service. By Tuesday power outages were scattered as crews worked to get power back to the remaining homes and businesses affected.
"(Restoration) varies based on crew availability and number of people in an area," spokeswoman Annie O'Dell said.
