The first weekend of August is shaping up to be a hot, humid one for southeast Michigan.

Highs are expected to climb into the mid-80s Friday, , with a slight chance of showers in the afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

The thermometer could top out near 90 on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, according to the forecast. Lows should drop around 70, or nearly 10 degrees above average for this time of year, weather service records show.

"It’s going to get warm for a couple days," meteorologist Joseph Clark said, adding that despite the heat index reaching the mid-90s on Sunday, "It’ll be little more humid but not overly oppressive."

Clear skies are expected over the weekend, but stormy weather could return Monday into Tuesday.

With those showers and thunderstorms, the mercury should hover around 80, Clark said. "This ridge will be pretty short-lived."
