An Ozone Action Day warning for Saturday, state officials said.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality said air pollutants are expected to be in the unhealthy range Saturday for sensitive groups.

The advisory is in effect for Lenawee, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties, the agency said. It has also issued a similar warning for parts of western Michigan.

Warmer temperatures and humidity in the forecast for Saturday prompted the warning.

The National Weather Service predicts Saturday will be sunny and temperatures in the Detroit area will reach a high near 88 degrees and a low of about 71 degrees.

During Ozone Action Days people and businesses are urged to avoid activities which lead to the formation of the gas, which include refueling vehicles, using gasoline-powered lawn equipment or using charcoal lighter fluid.

State officials have declared seven Ozone Action Days for the Detroit and Ann Arbor areas this summer, according to the MDEQ. Tthe most recent was on July 1.

Last year, Detroit had three Ozone Action Days and Ann Arbor had four, the agency said.
